The Lamentation of Adonis

None suffers as do I
whose heart only brings the blight.
I have hurt my Queen,
bitterly she weeps at night,

How could my shining love
have burnt my child to dust?
How could I destroy
my adoration with my lust?

I am all alone,
unwanted even by the dead.
Becoming the worst omen
as my enemies said.

O people tear me down,
punish me, throw the stone.
Take away my light,
the Word is now my groan.
